The reward that miners get for contributing their processing capability directly to the network is capped by the amount of bitcoin that each miner has invested.
This is an alternative to the Proof of Work protocol and therefore, a miner who already has three coins can only ever hope to get a further three coins.
Instead of being able to exchange their earnings for a different cryptocurrency, miners are incentivized to continue using the same blockchain that they originally used.
